Is it possible to cut down, i.e. shorten this tube extender like steerer tubes on forks can be shortened? Does it have its own star nut?

It comes with a star nut and a longer bolt. I did not use the star nut that came with it as the bolt reaches the existing nut in the tube.(I could not see how to use the supplied nut). I expect you could cut it to be a bit shorter as I used spacer rings to make full use of the extra height.

Yes, it has its own star nut. I would not recommend attacking it with a hacksaw.

If the steerer tube is 1 and 1/8th inch then the answer is yes.
