I would recommend Hope brakes and levers as these are UK made and very reliable. If Hope are a little out of your price range I would recommend the Avid Juicy brakes which come in a variety of price brackets and are generally very good brakes.

I bought my son an extra large and he is 6 foot 4. Its the right size for him and he finds it very comfortable. I am 6 foot and I can ride his fine as well but would probably be better off with a large. I would recommend getting a large size bike at 6 foot 1.

Question
What a derailler(Rear Mech) at GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc 2011?
Hello I would like to clarify about the derailleur Shimano RD-M772-SGS XT Schadow, as it is in your description of the bicycle GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc 2011, although the picture looks derailler Shimano SLX. Refine please: what is on the GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc 2011. I would not want to make a mistake in buying a bike. Sorry for my English. Thank you very much!
I have recently purchased this bike and the rear mechanical is XT

The rear derailleur is XT Shadow. I've got this bike from Wiggle and it's definitely XT.

I would recommend the Medium. I'm 5'7 with 30 leg and have the medium. The small was just a little too small and felt like I was being pushed of the back of the seat. I'm a 30inch leg and have 0 clearance on the frame. It's fine though.

I think small would be best. I'm 5'7 with 30 leg. I have the Medium. I felt I was right inbetween. When I tried the small I felt as if I was being pushed of the seat a little. With the medium there is 0 clearance from the frame with my 30 leg.
