Casing of the lights looks the same apart from the writing on them. They have a different lens/diffuser on the end. The front light has a fairly standard clear lens giving a white beam like a torch. The rear light has a red diffuser on it which increases the visible angle.

Yes. Front 'Flash' is white. Rear 'Flare' is red. They are really good, worth the money with the recharger.

Yes, the Flash is a headlight, white, and the default mode is NOT flashing. The Flare is a red taillight. Awesome little lights! I use the Flash on my helmet for brevets.

Question
Suitable for unlit roads?
With the nights drawing in I am looking to purchase a light set for my road bike on a limited budget. Is the front light sufficiently bright to use on unlit country roads or will I have to bite the bullet and invest in a halogen front light?

Great for being seen but not designed for seeing by. Get something more powerful if you need to navigate by it.

answer 2
The front light casts a decent amount of light. I generally ride on sealed roads that I ride regularly so I know where most of the holes in the road are however you never know from day to day what's going to change (road kill, glass etc). I find this light sufficient but it depends how far ahead of yourself you want to see with your light and at what speed you will be travelling. At a guess I would say that this light provides good light for 10-15 metres in a street with no street lighting.

These lights are great for being seen, although you may want to invest in something more robust to provide sufficient light on unlit roads.

I wouldn't like to say they'd be as good as halogen. They have small rechargeable batteries and give out good vision.

No helmet mount included. I have Bell road and mtb helmets and the bar mount included wouldn't easily fit to either of them. I can't see the point of fitting it to a helment because it isn't bright enough to navigate by anyway.

no. the fixings provided are easy fit silicone bands which fit around the handlebar and saddle post

It doesn't come with a specific helmet mount but you may be able to use the flexible bangs to attach them, depending on the vent layout of your helmet.

I believe that exposure do produce a helmet mount for other lights bin their range

If you buy the lights set - front and rear - it comes with a charger which can easily be made to work with Australian and NZ sockets. The battery charger uses a generic type lead between the charger and the plug of the type that you find on radios, camera chargers etc. You can either use one that you have lying around or else just use an international adaptor with the cord included in the set.

answer 2
Comes with a UK plug, you will need an adapter to accommodate the Australian plug. The voltage (240V) is fine.

The charger supplied is for UK power sockets. You would need to obtain a suitable adaptor in order to use the charger but these are readily available at most electrical stores.

I have just bought these lights. They don't come with a dedicated helment mount and it is difficult to see how they could be easily attached. They look much smaller than diameter of the Joystick light which has a dedicated helmet mount. The rear light mount is specific to a seat tube and is angled slightly. The silicone band looks very good quality and would stretch over any diameter bar/seat post but unlikely to fit a helmet. In all other respects they are high quality, very bright for the size, nice charger and batteries included, good case.

The flare mount would be difficult to attach to a helmet. You could get a second flash mount and use that. In that case, you could mount them both. They're very small.
