Yes, you can choose to have gradient displayed. It is a standard field.

I am unsure exactly what your question is, so in an effort to explain:

The unit does not give percentages of altitudes. For example, if I am ending at 2320m and I start at 1320m I cannot see 50% climbed at 1820m.

The unit does give percentage gradient and vertical climb rate however. For example, if I am rising vertically 10cm for every meter forward horizontally I see a 10% gradient. I also see a vertical climb rate in metres per hour.

Hope that helps.

Yes! Go to ; menu-settings(spanner symbol)-bike settings-training pages-timer pages-page(e.g.2)- then add enough variables to give altitude. Where height is given in feet or metres, touch that window, scroll to elevation, and change to %. Simple!!!

Yes, select a field you do not need and relace it with power. E.g. If you are showing speed/dist/cad/hr, then click on hr and relace it with power, You access this through bike settings/training pages/timer pages.

answer 3
Yes, provided you have a power meter that is recognised by the head unit, basically any ANT+ power meter seems to work (wheel or crank based at present, with Garmins own Pedal Power Meter in the 2012)

Enable the power sensor in the configuration and ensure you can connect to it.

Then select the information you want in any of the three screens.

Assuming it's the same as the 705, you can choose what to display. You can have something like 6 different parameters on the screen at a time and they can be anything the unit measures.

Question
Can this GPS be used off the bike?
As a very keen cyclist and regular fell walker, I was wondering if the GPS could be used when walking? Has anyone had any experience of using the GPS for anything else other than cycling? It would make it a more cost-effective purchase if it had a dual use:-)

Thanks, Michael.

Yes - I have used it for walking and cycling.

Whilst you can identify your uploads to the Garmin Connect site I have not yet found an easy way of sorting the data ie presenting bike mileage separately to the walking mileage

Yes, I used it to with the city maps in the pack to get around Paris. The addresses can be searched and although the screen can be a little small, it's easily good enough as a hand held device. As well as which, since it doesn't need a mobile phone connection it's a darn sight cheaper overseas than my iPhone.

I use mine on two bikes, the only extra purchase I needed was an extra Ant+ compatable Speed/cadence sensor. It does not seem to allow a separate speed and cadence sensor to pick up. But the combined one I have on my bike is fine

Based on my EDGE 500, I suspect you have the second stem mount and straps in the original kit.

So that just leaves the speed/cadence sensor GSC10 and the magnets.

I use Cateye Wheel Magnets as the Garmin ones are almost impossible to find. Also have now modified my left crank arm to accept a Cateye Magnet directly without the need for cable ties.

Does require the crank being removed and a small hole tapped for the magnet thread, but much neater and fine on an alloy crank. I also used a blob of epoxy as well. Has not shifted or lost in over 400km of use !

The Trail Bundle includes the OS mapping. The imagery shown is the BaseCamp software but is a fair representation of teh view seen on the screen. The following link http://gbr.garmin.com/on-the-trail/ gives some better screen shots of the EDGE 800.

This option comes with the City Navigator mapping which is more road based. The image shows the sort of off road detail you would get from the trail mapping option as linked below.

I bought this one from Wiggle which came with the full European maps and then acquired the Australian maps later...the European maps come on a 2GB card and the Australian maps fit on that card easily also (co-exist happily).

This gps is supplied with European road mapping but the GPS will work anywhere with satellite coverage. You will need to purchase mapping for Australian territory to use it in Australia.

The white model is a lesser model. Might be better to ask Garmin why they chose to package their GPS units in such a manner - it would be nice to have a choice of colours...canary yellow would be nice.
