Questions & Answers for Swimovate Pool Mate

Question
Does it beep to tell you when you have reached a certain amount of laps?
Does anyone know if you can set the watch to tell you when you reach a certain amount of laps? I like the idea of it counting the laps but I dont want to keep stopping to look at how many I have done?

(Don't think you would hear a bleep when swimming, even if it had one!)
It's clear to read - only takes a sec to glance down to see your lap count - quicker than swimming an extra 2 lengths!!!

No, unfortunately not. It really could do with this feature, but it's still a useful aid to training.

No. There isnt a 'countdown' facility on this watch. You have to stop and press a button to see how many laps you have done.

I don't believe it does. I agree with you though, it would be a handy feature. I've thought about that myself.

No it doesn't beep at a set amount of lengths, but, if you have a target amount - say 50 and you know roughly how long it takes you to complete, you can set the alarm a minute or two under your goal time, then you should only need to check once near to your goal as it is easy to count the last one or two lengths.

Question
Is this watch suitable for training and competing in a triathlon?
I'm taking part in my first Triathlon next year and on the look out for a watch mainly to help with swimming and running (already have an on-bike computer). While lap counting sounds like its main feature do the other functions help with running/timing etc?

Hi,
Im also training for a Triathalon and bought this watch for my swimming to count my lengths and distance. Unfortunatley it doesnt do this accurateley and is wrong 100% of the time. I have used it in different sized pools and adjusted accordingley every time but still gets it wrong which in turn makes all the other info wrong. If the lap count was accurate then it would be a great watch and very useful for training

This watch is not suitable for triathlon, it only counts labs in a swim bath based on a mowing sensor and the lab length
I use Garmin 310 XT for triathlon

The watch is great, but just for swimming in pools. It's not for open waters, and definitively is not for running: not hr, no laps (outside the pool), no gps,...just a chrono.

Perfect for you - it counts your swim lengths & has a chrono feature for timing running/bike splits. It's easy to use.
Not a heart-rate monitor tho, so it can time your runs but not give you run-specific feedback...
Get the pink one - it's FAST!!!

negative. This watch is swim specific. It will help you achieve a consistent swim stroke in a pool if you can decode the data

For my point of view, this watch is just for the training in pool and not for the competition witch is normally in open area. Prefer to use a Polar during the race...because your heart beats are your best speed indicator.

Its a great piece of kit, shows lengths, strokes, times etc. It would be handy for running as there's a chrono feature allowing ya to time your run but bar that it seems to be purely a swim mate

Great for training in the pool but not much else as you can't see time, strokes etc. until after the session. It just displays laps during. Better with a polar type traditional sports watch to keep time, higher end ones allow you to time each leg and transitions plus overall time.

It is only designed for use in a pool as it is triggered when you turn - having been programmed for the pool size, e.g. 25 or 50 mtrs.

According to manual it doesn't work in open water. I think it is based upon a gyroscope and hence measure material change in direction (180 degree) you experience in lap swimming. It does count strokes but I suspect you want total distance.

You need a waterproof GPS watch for that. Not many around.

No .. it can measure time but not distance. And of course it counts laps but only in pools. Look at the demo on You Tube. I've attached it. Should explain how it works.

No, it wont measure open water distances. You have to tell it the length of the pool for it to calculate how far you have swum.
You need a waterproof GPS unit

answer 9
No it won't work in open water. You have to enter the length of the pool on it. It senses when you turn and push off from the wall with a long gliding stroke compared to your other usual strokes. So it won't work when you swim constantly without turning at the end of a pool. I've not seen one that works in open water.

answer 10
No. I believe it determines distance by recording your change in direction using some kind of an accelerometer you need to tell it the pool length for it to measure the total distance and you need to complete full lengths of the pool. For open water you would need something with GPS that is also waterproof like the Garmin Forerunner 405.

answer 11
Unfortunately not, this watch has a lap counter but won't measure your distance and pace. To measure distance and pace you will need a GPS watch such as the Garmin Forerunner 310XT which is fully waterproof.
