answer 3
Yes, there are three settings 0-2. Magnetic resistance. But, tyre pressure and gear changes has more of an effect than the adjustable resistance - more than you will ever need.

answer 5
yes 3 levels (none, light and strong steps) and all the range of gear from the bike.

Using on none position with the maximal devlopment of any road bike (52/12 or something like this) is a real load .

Matching V arion setting and bike gear setting may help to adjust the load / cadence balance of your training

Question
Is this similar to a turbo in the way it wears the rubber on the tyres, thus requiring a separate set of training tyres?

answer 2
You can use your normal tyres on this roller and generally speaking wear is less than that of a turbo trainer. However a set of cheap training tyres would save your best tyres for out on the road.

If your mini velo bike has a similar wheel base to that of your road bike then I would think that you would be able to use these with that as well as your road bike.
