Yes I use it with my 705 but you do have to re-link and then it doesn't pick up the original belt so it seems that the codes or whatever are different but to be honest once you've used the new one I would never go back to the original as this is so much better

Yes. I use it with 800 & 305.
The standard Garmin strap is cheaper but only a few euros off. Edge 800 can pair with other manufacturers ANT+ HRMs

What is joining method of chest strap?

is the strap 'broken' at the transmitter press studs to pass around the chest or is there a hook & loop method?

I have 2 x straps (one from Edge 500 & one from Forerunner 410) and they are different.

Much prefer the model where the transmitter is the connection point for the 2 ends of the chest strap.

I think Garmin now only sell the solid belt design HRM (to which the transmitter attached)- bit of a pain as you have to step into or pass over your head

I have recently received one of these straps from Wiggle, and I can confirm that it does work reliably with my Garmin Oregon 450t (firmware versions tried 4.2 and 4.5).

Probably. The Garmin website shows the "Premium Heart Rate Monitor (Soft Strap)" as being compatible with the Oregon 550t which is the same as the 450t but also has a camera.
The biggest question is if this is the latest version of the strap, part no. 010-10997-02
