Questions & Answers for Magura Julie HP (High Pressure) Disc Brake

Question
Magura Julie HP disc brake
Hi there,

I need a replacement for an existing Magura Julie 2004 model brake fitted to a Marin Rock Springs (also 2004). The front rotor is 180mm and the caliper mounts directly onto the leg of the MX Comp Bomber forks (no adaptor).
Would I right in selecting a RH 180mm rotor post fix model from the current Julie range? Do I have to change the rotor or will the existing SL rotor work (its in good nick)? Do the current julies come pre bled or do I have to bleed them? If so what do I need to bleed them?

It looks to be the same mounting, you get a mount inside the box. I'm sure they're IS standard.

Hope this helps.

Question
07 rockhopper juicy 3 upgrade suitability
I have a 2007 rockhopper. My Front Avid Juicy 3 in need of service so looking to upgrade. Ride the bike in the lake district, very aggressively (am 16 stone and dont hold back on the downhill sections).

Q1: How will these (with a 205mm rotor) compare to juicy 3's on the standard rotor (160mm ??)

Q2: will it be ok to upgrade from 160mm rotor to 205mm and

Q3: does a 205mm kit come with the neccessary brackets (assuming IS mount) for the conversion.

answering my own question, but took a gamble and ordered the kit. Fitted it today, but not bedded it in / tested it yet.

Q1: Not sure yet, but already feel better than the AVIDS from blatting up the road - will confirm in due course

Q2: TBC - doing the W2 @ Afan this weekend

Q3: Yes it does. The kit came will all brackets and parts needed for the conversion. Was easy to install and the lack of metallic noise/brake grinding made a blessed relief from my previous avid juicy 3's

That isnt a question, its a statement. So not sure what info your after..?

In relation to the options you stated, it translates as follows:

The 180 refers to the rotor size - post mount means the brake attaches to the forks - which could mean a particular bracket is needed - the front - refers to the front brake - the right hand - refers to which side the lever will go on the bars

and then the last bit, is a 180 rotor, rear brake, IS mount (internation standard), meaning the calliper attaches to a bracket which attaches to an IS standard pair of holes (so the same the world over) on the frame. Where it says left hand, means the lever will be the one on the left hand of the bar.

I am no pro on this stuff, (and certainly dont work for wiggle - so my view is my own and could be totally wrong) but today swapped the front avid juicy 3 on my rockhopper to a front, IS mount, right hand 203mm julie HP. Installation, including hose shortening was easy. Just need to run it out to bed in the brakes tomorrow and hopefully it should perform really well.

Question
Fitting of 180mm rotors on IS mount previosuly used for 160mm rotors
At the moment I have 160mm rotors on IS mount. If I order 180mm rotors does it come with an adapter or are the brake calipers different that come with 180mm or 203mm rotors? Thanks.

Generally most frames come with IS mounts on the rear so disc brakes also come with IS adapters as standard for rear brakes.
