This light is bright, I have used it for cross country riding. but if your serious about lights got for lupine. As there is a reason this light is so much cheaper.
But on a plus point this light will be good enough for the majority of users and it was better than I expected, with a nice crisp white light. instead of the warm white (yellow) that older and some cheap lights give

Unless you are very fast downhill in the dark I have found it to be adequate. The achieve stronger lighting without weight penalty will cost a lot more. it has a wider beam than most LED which is great for off road

Hi there,

The minewt mini makes an excellent light for commuting and unlit roads as well as an entry level off road light. If you intend to do more off road riding with this light though I would recommend the upgrade to the MiNewt.200.

Thanks

I would suggest reading the reviews, probably ok for rural unlit roads but not for trails.

Question
Battery Choice
I need a front light to see where I'm going in dark country lanes, ride time up to 1hour 30 mins. I am considering 3 options: Cateye EL530, £43.99, which I would run from good quality rechargeable AA batteries; Cateye EL610 single shot plus, £79.99, running off NiMH; or NiteRider MinNewt Mini, £79.99, running off Li-ion. Is there a significant, noticable improvement in brightness moving from the £44 price bracket to £80 and, if so, which would you recommend, the Cateye NiMH or NiteRider Li-ion? My main concern is the quality of useful illumination. Thank you.

You can't go past the MiNewt. I have an earlier model of the Cateye and it does not come close

I can't speak from personal experience but this months Cycling plus didn't rate the EL530 very highly. They say the beam is a bit old fashioned like a torch but very good run times. I don't know about the EL610 but C+ and a colleague of mine say the Minewt is brilliant allround. Good run time, quality power and size. Of the three I'd go for the Minewt but don't forget Rechargeable batteries can go flat suddenly, as I've experienced twice this week with two different lamps. Its always good to have a small back up. I have a cat eye EL410 and an S-Sun both of which can get you home with just enough light but run forever. I also recommend Petzl head torches ie Tikka and E-lite. The E-lite comes in a protective case for the bottom of your bag emergency use. It has a 10 year shelf life and about 40 hour run time. Two power settings on white and red flash/steady with an elastic strap so it covers front and rear emergency uses.

Hi there,

Unfortunately the battery is not interchangeable as the Minewt range and the USB ranges use different connections.

The plug supplied cannot be used with anything other than a UK socket but it can be charged via USB so in theory it should be able to be charged from any computer

Having purchased 2 and had one fail not long after a heavy rain storm I would have to say it's a bit hit and miss. I would suggest that heavy rain should be avoided, but both worked perfect with splashes and showers
