Questions & Answers for Ergon GC3 Handlebar Grips

Question
Small or Large? Ergon gives no Information about it!
From the manufacturer website:
"Ergon grips allow for optimum function. Ergon GC3 grips require a handlebar with 22.2 mm diameter in the grip area and
uninterrupted bar space of:
- 140 mm each side for standard shifters
- 140 mm left and 105 mm right for Rohloff
®/Nexus®
- 105 mm each side for GripShift®

My questions:
how long is the standard large?
how long is the standard small?
or is is more about the palm size and it is for a bigger hand but has the same length?

I think it's more about the palm size. I bought Large standard GC3 grips and they're 140mm each side (I have standard shifters). Ps I wear a large sized glove

Standard grips are 140mm and grip shift are 105mm. The different sizes relate to the palm surface rest. If you go by your glove size you should be fine, Small, med, large etc

You can't fit your current mirror, because the bar ends close off the open ends of the handlebars. I use a "Zefal Spy" mirror on these bar ends, and attach it high up on the elbow part of the bar end. Works great.

simple answer is no! the bar end is clamped over the end of the bar the only way you could do this would be to drill a hole in the end of the bar end that might work or just us the GP1 same grip without the bar end

If you have a gripshift, you need to get the shorter ones designed for the gripshift. They are about 35mm shorter in length. the large fit a 22.2mm diameter bar, I am unsure of the diameter for the smalls. If you have a thinner walled bar, buy the inserts so you dont crush the bars when you clamp these on.

answer 2
Gripshift should be used only with Gripshift gear levers. If you hav pods that hang from your bars you should order the Regular version. The size is only relating to the size of the palm rest of the grip. If you have small hands buy small, if you have larger hands buy the larger size.

The Ergon GC3 comes in two sizes. Large and small. I purchased the large which fit a 22.2mm diameter handle bar. I am not sure of the diameter of the small. They secure at the end of the handle bar with a 5mm allen wrench and a cam. make sure that you have good, rigid bars. If not, you may want to look into the inserts that you can get from ergon to keep from crushing the bar when you clamp them on.

These fit standard 22mm flat bars. They slide on over the bar and clamp using allen key bolts at the outer clamp.

Question
Difference between Gripshift & Standard
Is the only difference between the two their size? What I'm driving at is whether it would be possible to use the gripshift version with standard shifters and thereby use up less handlebar length?

Thanks for any help.

Yes you could do as you ask but they are not quite as comfortable in the shorter version and you may find that your thumb rests on your shifter which can become a pain

Yes the only difference is that the gripshift version is around half the length of the standard grip. You could use the gripshift grips with a standard pod shifter but you wouldn't have much of a grip length to hold on to.

Question
What if sometimes you want to take the barend off and use as a GP1. Can you do this?
Since the grip is the same shape as a GP1, can you just get a GP1 clamp and use them without the barends?
