You should be fine with your current double front mech, you will need to lower it on the seat tube and re-tension the cable and adjust the limit screws.

You will also need to buy a tapered bottom bracket (square) as the 105 bottom bracket will not suit

I would recommend you spend an extra dollar and buy Fulcrum R Torq compacts and the only other thing you need are bearing cups

The bottom bracket axle is integral with the crankset on Hollowtech 2. You will need to buy hollowtech bearings that have threads suitable for your frame. These dont need to be specially for a compact, and they dont need to be 105 (eg ultegra would also be fine). You will also need a hollowtech 2 fitting tool.

Question
Chainset change
I have a peugeot road bike with 8 speed campagnola drivetrain. mix of veloce and mirage (probably 11 years old). The chainset is 52/42 which is too big for my ageing legs! Could you tell me if i could fit a compact (FSA!) chainset to make this bike more usable in hilly West Cork. Would i need other parts as well or just chainset?

I fitted this chainset to my 1990 peugeot. The only problem was getting a 103mm bottom bracket. I found a track bottom bracket to fit.

I want to convert my triple Trek 1.2 to a double, so can I fit just compact chain rings, or will the off set be wrong, so I will end up needing crank arms and spiders as well?
