Question
Switching Sides
Has anybody switched this around so that the controlling bits are on the other side? Thinking of getting a second one to fit over passenger side of the car and wondered how fiddly that'd be?

Thanks for your answers. Have now fitted the second carrier on the passenger side and it was pretty easy to swap the bits around. Some parts are not symmetrical so that, once on, the locking mechanism etc on the second carrier is not exactly a mirror-image of the original, but it's as close as makes no difference. I would happily recommend fitting another carrier in this way if you're considering it.

Yes it can be switched to match the other side, I did it although it was a little bit fiddly but make a brew and read the instructions and its more than achievable...

The rack does come supplied with full fitting instructions and this does show how to switch the rack for use on either side of the vehicle. This does require removal of some parts to flip around but shouldn't prove too difficult if the instructions are followed.

Question
Will this rack securely hold a Lapierre Froggy?
The tubing on the frame is not totally round so its hard to know from the picture if it will fit or not and I don't want to have to post it back to you if it doesn't fit.

I think you'll be fine with a froggy - I have an old kona coiler using this rack (similar tubes to your bike) - no problems at all, as the clamp rachets up from the top and bottem.

Question
Are the wheel locking straps suitable for use with deep-section carbon rims (101mm rear + 82mm front)?

I have 40mm rims and it works fine ... i think 80 would be pushing the limits and definitely you'd be caught with 100m. You might get the straps to close but with very little conviction or bite

The wheel straps are 270mm long and are designed to fit over large mountain bike tyres aswell. You won't have a problem with fitting them over your wheel rims.

This should fit on your existing roof bars. Without trying it we can't be sure, not all roof bars are the same.

Question
Given that this grips top and bottom of the downtube, is there any problem with stretching the cables that run under the downtube?

If you release the pressure on the cables (by shifting into the small cog front and rear), there is enough give to avoid the clamps (when pulled out the way).

I have also used a well-positioned piece of duck tape on the down tube to minimise any scouring.

This carrier is designed for attachment to a roof rack so wouldn't be suitable for bolting to the bed of your truck.
