I wouldn't think so - the point is that the kids use their feet to stabilise themselves and develop balance by 'free wheeling' when they feel confident enough to. The FirstBike might be a bit small for a 6 year old, depending on whether he has kept pace with the height of others his age. How about taking the pedals off a bigger kids bike with stabilisers and taping some foam to the cranks so he doesn't bash his ankles. Then lower the seat so he can get his feet flat on the floor and propel himself. That's what I did for my six year old to progress her from stabilisers.
