Questions & Answers for Cateye EL610 Single Shot Plus Front Light

Question
Why better than the ordinary single shot?
I'm looking for a light that will allow me to get home on dark, unlit and occasiopnally busy roads, and some fairly gentle off road sections. Is there any reason to fork out the extra 20 quid for the plus? Both seem remarkably similar, and say they can light up the whole road, while the rechargable batteries on both are similar.

As well as being brighter (2*1W instead of 1*1W), it has a longer battery life (and as such is more bulky) than the ordinary single shot.

Question
How bright is 15000 candles
Trying to decide the best light to buy for my winter commutes on unlit roads. Many lights give lumens as a reference, but how does this compare with candle power as a measure?

One candlepower is around 12.57 lumens.
The light I use, a Cateye Single Shot Plus, gives out 15,000 candlepower, and I find it good enough to commute along unlit roads, even getting over 30 MPH down hill!
It's a bit expensive, but you save because of it's rechargeable battery, and I think it is a good light.
If you use the low setting on lit roads, the battery lasts for a reasonable time.
Hope this helps.

Question
How does this compare against a halogen light?
Apart from the battery issue, is it worth upgrading to this light over a halogen light. For example the Cateye HL500?

Most of my cycling is done on lit streets (for which I have a small 'be seen' light), so I won't be running this for long enough to make the battery cost a problem.

Thanks

Much whiter beam and the LED's are longer lasting than halogens so need replacing less.
