Probably a daft question but going to ask. using XT 770 shifters which rear XT mech (770 or 771) do i need to shift up (easier) when using thumb lever.. and will allow me to shift up more than one sprocket at a time. This would mean a click on the small lever would shift down (harder).
If that makes sense. regards Nels

I'm guessing you mean that if you press the silver lever which derailleur shifts which way. The 770 shifts down (harder to pedal) and the 771/772 shifts up (easier to pedal) so hope this helps. The silver lever also allows you to shift 3-4 gears in one action

M770 Low Normal uses thumb lever to select higher gears (smaller cogs).
M771 Top Normal uses thumb lever to select lower gears (bigger cogs).
M772 Shadow is Top Normal.
Hope this helps.

There wasn't one on the unit that I've just fitted, there's a hole for the cable and outer only.

Hi. I have "shadow" version of XT r.mech and it seems like both of them don't have adjusting barrels. You'll have to make fine tune with barrel at shifter pod only, and, with screwdriver. I didn't face any difficulties.

This is not a 10 speed derailleur so you should not use it with 10 speed shifters and likely a 10 speed chain. You should use either the Apex derailleur or a Shimano Dyna Sys 10 speed derailleur.
