The tubes included are Contis; made in China though. (Tyres are labelled Made In Germany)
Tubes seem to work fine, except I 'pinched' one installing it - hardly the tube's fault!
Great general purpose tyres, only two weeks in but so far very happy.

Question
Are these suitable for tris?
As this item is described as having a "winter tread", does this mean they are OK for triathlons (I'm an age grouper, not pro!)??

I've raced on these tyres during tri of all distance up to and including IM, I'm sure there are faster tyres out there but I'm a great believer in training as you race, these tyres can do both, plus there is the added puncture resisitance I'm sure you'll agree a puncture during the race is no fun and would easily wipe out any time advantage from a 'racing' tyre. hope this helps

yeah i will use them on uneven circuits and wet race days, fairly light tyre considering they are so so durable.

Think this means they are not slicks. There is a minimal tread but rolling speed is just average for a road tyre. They are more of a puncture proof commuting/training tyre.
answered 1 year ago
by
aussiephil
answer 4
I'm going to be using them in tri's

they seem no worse than my old bontrager select tyres, maybe a few grams heavier - but when you are carrying 16stone (I'm tall ok!) around the course with you what's a few grams for puncture peace of mind!

the "winter tread" is not wintery at all! they are more like slicks than my old ones. to the point that I'm concerned about how they will perform in the wet - but considering they are described as winter tread it must be good, but I'll have to wait and see.

answer 5
I first used these tyres when I was racing in Australia at club level, from the all weather tyres I was using I noticed a big difference, around 1-1.5mph speed increase, a great training and race tyre, you wont be disappointed and they will last thousands of miles.

answer 6
Yes you can use these tyres in Triathlon as they are all weather tyres. The only issue is that they are slower rolling than most race tyres so the added grip does come at a speed decrease or additional effort.

Question
PSI for heavy rider
I'm a bit of a heavy rider (200lb, 92kg) and I find I need a very high air pressure to keep my rear tyre from moving all over the rim. I normally have to be at 125-130PSI. It looks like these tyres have a max of 120. Are the sidewalls thick enough to make up for using less air? Can anyone recommend a good training and puncture resistant tyre that goes up to 130PSI?

answer 3
You actually need to use a 24C or 25C rear tyre, which will allow you to run lower pressure and should stop the tyre moving all over the rim.

I was 92kg and used the Schwalbe Durano Plus Performance Folding Road Tyre. It is a little heavy but it does offer excellent puncture resistance. I have tried other tyre but these have done the best job for me. I run then between 115 and 120 psi.
