Trainer comes with a quick release fitting for the trainer. Very easy to replace existing one (on Specialized Tricross), and then works fine.

Yes, although it comes with a replacement you are supposed to fit to your rear wheel first. So fully compatible

Yes, I've got this trainer and a quick release wheel. The trainer comes with a purpose made quick release lever which you replace your standard one with, and which then fits into the base unit to hold the bike in place.

Yes it is - they send you a special quick release pin which you swap in - takes a minute.

So far, I've bolted on 3 diffrent bikes with quick release wheels, the trainer comes with its own quick release spindle, you would use this one on you bike. On one of the bikes, the original spindle was about 5mm shortter than the trainer one, I had to use a nut (nut and bolt type, not peanut !!) as a spacer, all have been fine

It comes with its own quick release lever to use, but if your existing one is the same shape there is no reason why you cant use it.

Yes, and comes with a replacement quick release skewer which is designed to fit into the rear wheel mount, (my current skewer wasn't suitable so I changed it and leave the supplied one attached)

Yes you can use quick release wheels on this trainer. A spare quick release skewer is supplied with the trainer to prevent any damage to your current skewer.

Nothing is absolutely needed, but a training block is recommended. Without one, you are in a "downhill" position that can be awkward/uncomfortable. Try the CycleOps blocks.

answer 2
Essentially yes although more to level the bike out than for stability.
The biggest issue is that the back wheel is held quite far off the ground so you are in a real head-down position if you don't buy a riser block.
I bought the Cycleops Power Climbing Block (it is much bigger than you realise) which does the job perfectly. Look up a review of the trainer on youtube...the guy uses the same Cycleops block as I do.

answer 3
I'd recommend a riser block - the cycleops climbing block is ideal and around £16

I initially used mine without and one a laminate floor and the front wheel did move around on hard efforts.

A lot better with the above riser, it also makes a more comfortable riding position as it levels the bike out

answer 4
Front wheel is pretty stable without the need for a stand. However, I bought one to avoid having to ride in a perpetual "down hill" position from having the rear wheel raised by 2-3 inches above the front wheel which put a lot of uncomfortable pressure on my forearms and wrists.

You will need something to raise the front wheel up otherwise your rear wheel will be raised higher than the front once clamped into the trainer.

No it does not damage your tyre!
Using very narrow tyres is not recommended (under 23mm) 25mm wide is OK and provides enough contact area.
Using too low tyre pressures could cause tyre slip against the rim and rip your inner tube but that would be obvious? You would also puncture on the road if that were the cause.

All trainers increase tyre wear but you shouldn't get punctures or excessive wear. The Elastogel roller on this trainer also helps a lot with reducing tyre wear.

Does the flywheel stop quickly when you stop pedalling? or does it have some road-like feel

answer 1
It does not stop immediately. It does still stop more quickly than if you are on the road, because there is some constant resistance. For this reason it provides a better, if not wholly true-to-life, workout . I don't know of a trainer that carries your forward momentum through when not pedaling the way that this happens out on the road.

answer 2
Stops very quickly.
That was the biggst surprise for me (I've never used a trainer before) because it is much harder to keep up a decent average speed as you can essentially never freewheel.
I'd say it takes about 3 or 4 secs from 20mph to stop.
answered 1 year, 7 months ago
by
jashe
 - London
answer 3
It comes to a stop in about 5 secs, so there's not much freewheeling going on. I guess that means you have to keep pedalling, otherwise you'll lose rear wheel momentum.

Question
Is my trainer louder than expected?
When I get on the trainer it is very loud, the stand seems to fall back slightly on to the unit (and therefore the tyre presses more firmly on to the unit), causing a loud whirring sound getting louder with increased rpm. If I get off the bike and move the pedals manually the sound is the same but much much quieter (more the volume I was expecting). As a reference to volume, if I cycled on it you wouldn't be able to watch tv at all unless the volume was very high. This doesn't sound normal from others experience, any suggestions?

I have found this trainer to be particularly quiet! Watching TV would be possible although I listen to music.
Are you using knobbly tyres?
Regular road tyres are OK and smooth tyres even better.
I guess your unit could be faulty, noise is not normal for this product.

Well it depends what you mean by loud. No louder than a exercise bike, so what you would expect. Its not silent but why should that matter with earphone in or telly. You could still hold a conversation with someone whilst riding.

It does sound like the trainer may be a little too loud. Try setting the trainer up so there is a small gap between the tyre and the roller, when you sit on the bike the roller should make less contact with the wheel than before. If this is not doable please contact sales@wiggle.co.uk for further help.

None, you simply reverse the bike into the trainer and clamp the hub using the tightening handle. The wheel then lowers onto the resistance unit and off you go. Less than a minute.

Some professional teams use them to warm up before a time trial and then simply unhook and go racing!
