No it doesn't - perhaps the one thing this light is missing.

But then if you're using flashing mode you're not using this for what it is designed for, which is lighting up the bumps and potholes in the road in front of you.

There are cheaper flashing lights for where there are streetlights and you just need to be noticed as opposed to be seen in the dark and where the extra brightness of this light won't be that much of an advantage.

If you need lots of light and don't want to add 10% to the weight of your bike and take out a small mortgage then this is the one.

Question
Is this light suitable for unlit country roads?
A couple of times a week I commute for half an hour on roads with no street lighting. My existing led front light isn't up to the job. I wondered if this light would be a big enough improvement or whether I needed to go for one of the mountain bike style lights (e.g. Exposure Enduro)?

HI there - I'm using for a country road commute in the wilds of Suffolk. In general it's good enough. Sometimes I find myself wanting to switch on a 'main beam' particularly above say 16 or 17 mph, but really I've found it adequate with good battery life.

answer 8
Yes it is. I use this product on my Hybrid and find it throws out a very powerful beam and the batteries last long enough for extended night time rides. Apart from expensive remote battery systems that cost hundreds of pounds I don't think you get a better lighting pod for your money.

This is about as good as the budget lights get, you would need to spend £200 odd to get a major improvement.

I think you will find it is durable enough to take shocks and rocks of off roading, but I question the output for Night of Roading, the beam is quite narrow and you need something even more widespread than this. This has been produced for night road users and as such is great. I wouldn't use it off roading at night, night nearly enough wide beam to see what you want to avoid.

No - I use it for country roads at night - wouldn't want to use it off road at night. Definitely not. It's durable enough, just not bright enough.

I would be careful as I read some reviews that said it bounced out of the holder on rough trails. Also its a plastic case. If I was you I would get a light with a metal case which would be tougher for trail riding. I use this for commuting only.

answer 4
Hi, light level wise, it may just about be as long as the batteries are well charged. Wouldn't recomend it though, you're better off looking at spending a lot more on a rechargeable unit, with much better light levels. Maybe look at Exposure Spark or upwards? Exposure lights have mountings for helmets etc. too - much more what you need on trails.

Shock wise - I dropped one from two feet onto concrete and it smashed the fragile plastic case right where it screws together. It looks very weak there.

This light definitely isn't designed for rough use, in my o. I'd stick to commuting with it.

It's light and its center of gravity is very close to the handle. Also the grip is rubber, so i'd say it's suitable.

answer 6
It's a decent light for road use but I wouldn't use it off road. The standard Cateye mounts are not the strongest and the light is quite bulky so I think it might fall off over hard bumps and as it has a hard case (no rubberised padding) it could break quite easy. Also i don't know if it would throw enough light for a dark trail at night unless you go quite slow. It's a bright but fairly narrow beam.

For off road MTB use at night you need to spend quite a lot more and get something dedicated for the job.

The light will hold up to the bumps and vibration of the trail but you will not get enough light from this unit to light the way at night. You will need a significantly brighter light to ride off road.

There is plenty of adjustment in the mounting bracket so I think it could be installed on a front fork. Best to check fork diameter at proposed mounting point and check this against adjustment length on light mounting bracket.

answer 4
The mount is very adjustable so I would say it could be fitted to a fork leg but the light itself is rather large and so personally I would not want all that weight on the side of the mount as I'd be worried about it coming out (the light clips into the bracket). If its a wicker basket it might be possible to mount the light onto the edge of the basket by feeding the strap through the wicket itself but any movement in the basket might mean it doesn't stay pointed at the road.

answer 5
If you have a basket, I would assume that you don't have wide carbon forks.
The mounting is designed for a round bar or fork fitting and uses a very secure ratchet clamping mechanism.
Adjustment is via an adjustable plate held down by a lockdown screw .
