Customer Questions & Answers for
High5 EnergySource 4:1 With Super Carbs 1.6kg Tub

It's Europe's first state-of-the-art carbohydrate-protein energy and hydration drink - for use DURING exercise. It contains 4 Parts carbohydrate to 1 Part whey protein, hence the name. Research shows that this critical ratio, when used during exercise, provides athletes with more energy than carbohydrate alone. Based on the Award Winning complex carbohydrate found in standard EnergySource, 4:1 is easy on the stomach, hypotonic and refreshing. Performance proven in the toughest races. Most endurance athletes should be aware the primary cause of fatigue is the depletion of muscle and liver glycogen (carbohydrate) and that ingesting carbohydrates during exercise will delay the onset of this fatigue. However many athletes remain unaware that EnergySource 4:1 containing 4 parts Carbohydrate and 1 part Protein can extend the time to fatigue up to an incredible 29% when compared to a carbohydrate only drink and 57% when compared with water. Here's why. Consuming carbohydrates during exercise delays the onset of fatigue by fuelling your muscles via blood glucose and therefore sparing muscle and liver glycogen (carbohydrate stored in your muscles and liver). The amount of carbohydrate (energy) that is delivered to the working muscles is determined by the amount of insulin released by the Pancreas in response to the rise in your blood sugar caused by the ingested carbs. Ingested Protein also causes insulin to be released, and, with the right carbs and protein, in the right ratio (4 Carbs to 1 Protein) the gastric emptying speed is not slowed and there is a larger insulin response resulting in more carbohydrate (energy) being 'driven' into the working muscles during exercise. The more carbs i.e. energy, going into the working muscles the more endurance you will have.

Yes - I'm a veggie and use it. It doesn't declare 'Suitable for Vegetarians' on the label but the ingredients don't highlight a problem for me. The protein is whey protein and the emulsifier is Soya Lecithin.

answer 5
Depends how veggie you are! If you are vegan no, because it has 25% whey protein, which is a by product of cheese manufacture and comes from milk.

If you are just vegetarian and eat dairy then it is just fine (I am in this bracket).

Hope this is helpful!

answer 5
Yes EnergySource 4:1 contains electrolytes (180mg/100g potassium, 0.7g/100g sodium). For really hot conditions or when you just want extra electrolytes I would recommend using Zero Salts neutral. Because it is neutral flavouring you can mix it with any drink to make it a sports drink but keep the same flavour.

You may already have the answer to this question but I would have thought that as most of these drinks contain slow release carbohydrates for stamina it would be far preferable to most home-made sweet drinks and not only would it therefore not increase your insulin requirement but also make you less susceptible to a hypoglycaemic episode.

Yes. I'm T1D running ultramarathons and have been totally happy with this. Try their Xtreme blend as well. It contains caffeine which will make the carbohydrate more available and it also delivers a 47g CHO per 500mL in recommended ratio, whereas this delivers about 37g CHO.

Reliable product, great exercise fuel, great value, good sugar profile for active diabetics too.

Isotonic sports drinks contain similar concentrations of salt and sugar as in the human body.
Hypertonic sports drinks contain a higher concentration of salt and sugar than the human body.
Hypotonic sports drinks contain a lower concentration of salt and sugar than the human body.

answer 2
Hi - hypotonic means that the solution is less concentrated than (when referring to sports drinks) body fluids and so is generally absorbed quicker than isotonic fluids, which are roughly the same concentration as bod fluids.
See below article

A quick search on Google yields the following:

* Isotonic sports drinks contain similar concentrations of salt and sugar as in the human body.

* Hypertonic sports drinks contain a higher concentration of salt and sugar than the human body.

* Hypotonic sports drinks contain a lower concentration of salt and sugar than the human body

So isotonic is not the same as hypotonic

I believe isotonic means you dont have to use added water, well at least it does in the gels I use, so this would not be isotonic if that is what it actually means because you have to mix it in a bottle of water but I could be wrong. Hope this helps
