The sprung version has a spring-loaded clamp to hold stuff on the rack - kinda like a mouse trap.

It's a spring clip to help hold your gear on the rack.

answer 3
The spring version has a large mouse-trap style clamping section almost the length of the rack. To hold items like a jacket without needing a rackbag or bungees.

There is a range of these racks - MIne has the "track" but no spring. The topeak web site has an online catalogue that explains which models have which. Hope that helps.

I was puzzled by this too. I chose springs. Its just a spring-loaded arm in the traditional style for securing light loads. The only downside, if there is one is that it makes the rack appear a little bulkier.

The sprung one has a spring-loaded clip on the top for holding stuff. Kinda like a mousetrap.

Question
Spare metal brackets?
Is it possible to get any spare metal brackets? I use the rack on different bikes, and I had to bend the bracket when I moved to a second bike as it clashed with the brake.

I wouldn't recommend using a rack mounted child seat on this rack. All the rack mounted child seats we stock require a specific rack to use.

Question
Will this rack support the Topeak BabySitter Child Seat?
I don't see the difference in the mounting plate between the Topeak Super Tourist DX rack and the Topeak BabySitter rack, and I don't want to buy a new rack with the baby seat if it's not necessary (nor to do I see why Topeak wouldn't use a universal mount for bags, seats, etc).

The child seat will fit on this rack but we do not recommend the use of any rack other than the BabySitter rack as this rack is strengthened for this use.

Question
Does this rack fit to a frame without lugs?
I have a 2011 Specialized Allez but don't have any frame lugs for attaching a rack. I'm aware of several fixing methods for the top part, but does the lower section assemble to the axle? If so, do I need a new, longer skewer?
