8.99 is fully plated - it's purely cosmetic so up to you whether you want to spend more.

It will fit any Shimano 8 speed cassette (I'm using on an HG 40).

A 8 speed chain will fit a 7 and 8 speed bike. they will NOT fit a 9 or a 10 speed bike as they use thinner chains.
A X/93 chain has every other link nickel coated. a X/99 chain has every link nickel coated. I use X/93 chains.

The .99 is all nickel plated and the .93 is only partially nickel plated. I think it's just about appearance (perhaps also corrosion resistance), not performance.

I use an 8.93

Well, you get what you pay for. The only visible difference is that 8.93 has silvery sideplates and grey inner links while 8.99 is all silvery. Unsure if this translates to greater durability or is purely cosmetic. However, both of them will certainly work with the HG40 cassette which is of middling quality in Shimano's range. The difference between HG30 and HG 80 is in material, construction, surface finish and weight. All deraiileur chains for any number of speeds are 3/32inch between outer plates with the exception of one failed Shimano experiment in 10 speed Dura Ace chain. All chains for 6/7/8 speed are around 7.1mm measured across the link pins while 9 speed chains are around 6.5mm on account of the narrower cog spacing in the 9 speed cassette. The 9 speed chains achieve the narrowness with thinner outer plates and shorter pins. Trust the chain manufacturer. If it's a reputable name and it's marked 8 speed it will work with a 6/7/8 speed cassette.

Question
Is this chain compatible with a Shimano Nexus 20t CP freewheel?
Sorry for the long winded question but I'm quite confused. I own a felt x-city 2 which has is an internal hub system (Shimano Nexus) on a Shimano Nexus 20t CP freewheel.

The chain that came with it was a KMC narrow type (going by whats on the chain), anyway, that wore out quickly. The shop I bought it off had trouble sourcing a replacement chain. Settled on a Yaban BMX freestyle track. This is ok but does not run that smoothly so am after something else.

This chain is a 1/2" x 3/32" so the X8-93 seems like it should be suitable or am I missing something?

Alternatively if there's another suitable chain stocked by wiggle I'd be happy to give it a go.

Cheers

Any 1/2" x 3/32" 8 speed chain should work fine with the Nexus system so the X8-93 should be good for you.
