The map case clips via press studs onto the Ortlieb bar bag. It's not rigid...It's a like a thick plastic bag...very flexible but also very resistant. It can also be used folded for smaller maps.

Nope. This is a completely soft and floppy case meant to attach to the orlieb handlebar bags (which hold their own shape). If you do have the handle bar bag, it's perfect for what you need.

The current product picture shows the map case attached to an Ortlieb bar-bag using the press-studs at the top of the image. The bar bag is hidden by the map-case.
You can also use this map case attached directly to the bars using string/cord/cable-ties through the tags designed for an optional neck-cord. I use mine like this on my motorbike- no problems over a couple of thousand miles so far, speeds up to 100mph, driving English rain and Libyan sand storms.
On a road bike (drop bars), if the map case were tied to the bars instead of to a bar-bag then it may well be in the way. The map case is 285mm wide, 350mm long when unfolded and 180mm long when folded in half. I would not hesitate to use this on my mountain bike tied directly to the riser bars if I needed a map.

No. This product fits to the top of a bar-bag.
You probably want a product known as a "map holder" or "map trap".

No this is a flexible map case that fixes to the Ortlieb bar bag via press studs, it only becomes rigid when the map is in it. It can not be mounted independantly.

The map case is in no way rigid and i would assume you would require a board beneath it.
