I've only had this particular cage for a few days. The edges are pretty sharp and I wouldn't be surprised if the bottle is scratched up. Anyway it's much cheaper than the carbon cage and the performance is high when you are biking..

I use the Tao cage with Tacx Source bottles. They are a bit scratched after 3/4 months use, but that's because the cages provide a really tight fit. You only notice the scratches if you get real close, and honestly, who cares if your $4 bottles are a bit scratched?

I've used these cages for years. In my experience bottles eventually do scratch. I use SIS 750ml bottles, I have a couple that are about 3-years old and they are scratched. My newer but still well-used bottles are fine. I will still buy these cages though.

I use 750ml and 1000ml bottles without any problems of bottle damage. A very light weight and functional piece of kit.

Perhaps as one reviewer says these are not the best for 1000ml and larger 800ml bottles.

The diameter of the cage is roughly 75mm by my measurements which is about the standard diameter of a 600ml sports bottle. Length is only limited by the length of your bike frame

I got a Tacx bottle, which fits perfectly. Tricky to measure it as it tapers at the bottom, but bottle is just over 7 cm in diameter.

Ive got 750 ml & 620 ml and they fit fine. what u need to becareful with is your frame size cuz the cage dont normally have issue with it. most people dont realise that their frame is not tall enough for the bigger bottle...

answer 11
Sports bottles are pretty generic in size - Generally I would say any bottle made for a bike cage will do the trick.. But I have a Camelback 750ml which came with a waist belt for running and that is a very snug fit making it a bit of a danger to grab a drink when hurtling down a hill for example... I also tried a Sigg bottle but there was too much space around the outside so risked rattling around. I therefore opted to buy a new Bontrager bottle from a local bike shop and it fits perfectly.

Question
Suitable for mountain biking?
All references I've seen for this bottle are related to road bikes. Has anyone used them for mountain biking? I'm wondering they'll grip the bottle tight enough on rough trails.

answer 6
I've put them on my road bike instead of my mountain bike as they don't really work by compression but by friction. And because the front doesn't come as high up the bottle, especially on a 750ml bottle.

I use the TACX Alure on my mountain bike as it feels more secure for off road use.

I've got a camelback bottle and it grips it plenty tight - you'd probably have to jump off a cliff to dislodge it by accident.

in my experience ... no they wont hold the bottle. they are not the "grip" type of
cage - the bottle just rests in them.

There are several reviews available on the product page from Mountain Bikers who praise its rugged ability to withstand crashes and hold the bottle tight over the rough stuff so you should be fine.

"rugged (have crashed with it twice)" (Overstone)

"Holds bottles over the rough stuff, unlike some makes/models" (Devilbiking)
