Maybe, it depends on your chain length - which is only really an issue if you are on the biggest ring on the front and back at the same time - as it puts stress on the rear derailleur and can bend the cage. Mixing 105, Ult and DA is not an issue - I have 105, SRAM, Di2 and Ultegra on the one bike.

Don't see why not. I upgraded from 105 cassette to ultegra cassette with no issues.

probably, but check the tech specs for your rear derailluer to see if it supports that tooth.. you will probably have to go to 28-11 now that shimano is discontinuing the 27-12 casette

Yes, not a problem, but why go to Dura-ace? Ultegra does the job just as well and, being honest, you won 't notice the difference - at all - between 105 and Ultegra, unless you're a road racer or a pro. Keep your money and buy what does the job sensibly for what you need to do.

Question
Cassette help
I'm on a Shimano Ultegra Compact with a standard fit 10 speed cassette. What are the benefits of changing the cassettes i.e ratios. What do the numbers mean? Do some offer easier gears for hills?

when i used to run compact cranks & being not so fit the 12/27 ratio gives you the best of both worlds for climbing ie 27teeth & 12 that gives you a good high speed ratio but keep in mind with compact cranks even with this ratio you can run out of gears at about 50 kph approx but still fine though for pretty much everything recreational

Standard fit ... ? 12-25T ... or what combination? Is it 20 speed or 30 speed? ie: two front chainrings or three? It all depends on where you ride and how you ride. If it's hilly, you need bigger sprockets on the cassette (28-34T) to make it easier to climb in a lower gear with your "granny" ring or smaller front ring (30 or 39T). If you're powerful and it's flat, you need smaller sprockets (11T) on the back working with your big front ring (52/53T). And yes, the gear ratios are important because you can work out what you are pedalling with a little maths. You can read about it here: http://sheldonbrown.com/gears.html

This is a 10 speed cassette, if you have 10 speed Shimano at the moment it will be fine.

At this time we do not have an alternative with the ratio range required, its closest is the Ultegra 6700.
