Customer Questions & Answers for
Elite Ghibli Parabolic Rollers

The Elite Ghibli Parabolic Rollers are ideal for a recovery session or to warm up at an event, they fold flat enough to be carried in the boot and provide an ideal warm up solution when on your race tyres or tubulars. Why risk a puncture warming up on the road? Rollers offer very low resistance and are ideal to get your heart rate and muscles warmed up, they have been used for years by track cyclists in-between events due to the stop start nature of the sport. They also help hone your bike handling skills and improve pedalling technique, making you smoother and more efficient when on the bike.

Questions & Answers for Elite Ghibli Parabolic Rollers

Question
I see on the reviews that some compare the rollers to riding on ice. Would it help if the rollers had a non slip surface on them?

I dont think that this would make a great deal of difference. The ice feeling comes as you dont have the forward momentum to provide3 extra balance. The only thing it might do is wear your tyres down quiker. The rollers are quite easy to use, its just getting used to them. The raised lips on at the edges of the drums on these rollers will help you if you are worried about coming off.

answer 2
Definitely rollers. They may take more time to master but they are more flexible letting the bike move freely across the width of the rollers where as on static machines your bike is rigid so there is no movement. Its the closest you'll get to being on the road.

The tyres do not slip on the rollers...he must be talking about his experience of using them....they are very smooth and theres no wind resistance or gravity to overcome. They encourage smooth pedalling.

I think it is a setting problem.
look at my comment on the elite V arion parabolic roller...

The instruction manual says to set distance between rollers the closer position of bike wheelbase. For me it was 4 mm and like this it was a real rodeo... increasing distance between rollers to the next step (of 20 mm more) gave me a mutch more peacefull ride. It is alway more difficult than a turbo or a medicine bike because you are really riding, not just pedalling on a seat, and this is y think the interest of the roller versus any other system.

No it wouldn't.

The rollers do have a textured surface anyway

I don't think it is meant literally as the rollers provide good grip. I think it is more the sensitive nature of riding on rollers and this will help enormously in improving your balance on a cycle when on the road.

Can kind off see why people might say that, but nothing to do with grip on roller surface or material. Key to it is to keep front wheel pointing straigth ahead at all times and keep pedalling momentum up...easy really....LOL...

They do have a rough surface, it's just practice...........a bit like when you first learn to ride a bike.

answer 9
The reason for this is that when you lean left and right you drift across the roller, a non-slip surface won't help as you will still move left and right plus you will likley cause added heat and tyre wear. The feel of a roller is ideal for improving balance and smooth pedalling technique as it makes you think about the position of the bike.

is it ironman or sprint TRI ?
Do you want to make some power session or long lasting endurance.
on a roller you have to control balance as on the road and i think it is interesting as a glogal training of cycling abilities; but for long endurance session a turbo may offer others advantages: your can really read a book or look at TV or take lunch on a turbo; on a roller you really ride a bike and may fall by leak of attention

I've never used a turbo trainer but I was encouraged to buy the rollers as the experience, I'm told, is more dynamic and consequently more interesting! I'm really pleased with mine.
For the ultimate in winter workouts I recommend joining a spinning class.

Used Turbo for a few years but the rollers knock the spots of the turbo for realism and technique. Wish I'd invested several seasons ago.

Rollers are better for training smoothness and balance, and for being able to keep going without getting too bored. Turbos are better for hard efforts.

Neither is better or worse than the other. Your choice would come down to personal preference between the two.

Yes, they can be used with 26inch MTB wheels as they are adjustable. You would have to change you tyre from and MTB off road tyre to a road slick tyre though.

answer 3
The wheel size is not a major problem, the adjustable element is distance between roller to adjust to "a little more" than the wheelbase distance of your bike. My V arion parabolic can be set from 944 to 1124 mm and this seem me a wery large range of bike sizes fitting any bike between 920 to1115 mm wheelbaze.
I run a 54cm road bike and the wheelbase is 1000 and the good value of setting 1024 (1004 was for me very difficult to balance).

Don't see why not, although you'd have to fit slicks. The noise would be awful with off road tyres...know that from turbo experience.

The rollers are fully adjustable. The adjustment comes from the front roller. My son was training on this with 20" wheels

answer 6
The roller frame is adjustable so I can't see why you couldn't use a MTB. I have read reports of people using mountain bikes on rollers - the main advice given is that you need to put slick tyres on the bike to help it roll - knobbly ones will not work!

You don't need to but I would recommend changing your rear tyre to atraining tyre as it is a tougher compound. The roller will eat your rear tyre in a couple of hours and flatten it off totally!!

The shorteer space between axles is sold for 944 but in my experience my bike was easier to ride with a setting on 1024 than on the 1004 one with a real wheelbase of 1000 mm. The major problem is i think the effect of a 24" wheel (mine are 28") and i dont know wat it change...

Riding the rollers is much more intensive the your average road ride provided you do a few intervals or hard efforts. I'd be amazed if you could endure 40 miles on the rollers on a regular basis, I'm an experienced time triallist (under the hour for 25 and 239 for a 12hr) and the most I usually do at a time is 10-12 miles.
