answer 9
aim for 1g carb per kg of body weight per hour and do that in whatever mix of sports drink and gels works best for you. E.g. if you weigh 60kg, 1 SiS gel and 500mL sports drink per hour would see you right and help keep the wall away.

When beginning to eat during long hard runs, just back your pace off for about a minute before starting to eat or drink. The lower heart rate will mean a happier stomach and better metabolism.

If it is isotonic gel, you could start after 40 minutes and then every 30 minutes. Try this during training if it fits your needs.

You should use a gel sachet every 20-30 minutes of exercise with or without water. You can take them less often if you wish or start half way through your race, whenever you feel you suffer from lack of energy most.
