absolutely - have had one on my race bike since early 2006.

Light and easy to set up, and if you want a straight seatpost to position you forward on the bike, one of few decent choices for a road bike.

In my opinion this is superior to carbon posts on the market. The wall thickness of the post varies around its circumference to save weight but providing a thicker wall in the fore-aft direction to resist the greater bending stresses.
Aluminium posts have great fatigue properties and are not prone to impact damage as carbon items are.

Hard to say without destroying both but the Thomson Elite is practically industructable. You will not bend it under very extreme usage and even then it will bend before it breaks.

I would go for the Thomson. Great value and a safe strong fit. Make sure you get the right post, the in line post, 7degree layback or 10 degree layback. Just depends on your measurements.

I would'nt recommend using this seatpost with a Brooks saddle, at least not a B17. It all depends of course, but Brooks saddles have short rails and can't be put back that far. I have this seatpost and a Brooks B17 and will sell this to buy a new seatpost with a 20-30mm set back to allow for more comfortable riding position

answer 3
It depends on the length of seatpost you get. Check at your local bike shop and ask what the shortest post is you can get away with. They will let you know, then you can check the weight at a website such as http://weightweenies.starbike.com/
They have a comprehensive and reliable listing of bike parts and their weights.
Thomson seatposts are made of lightweight aluminum. They are solid and light, but don't flex like carbon fibre does. However, if a carbon seatpost fails, it can cause very serious damage. I tend to err on the side of caution and recommend a lightweight aluminum post, which is less likely to fail.
