I reckon not, should fit both same way round and arrows should point forward by logic if most else but for 99 per cent be no odds

The tread on these tyres are not angled either way, it doesn't matter which way you mount it as the tread will be identicle both ways.

Question
Should I size up or down?
I've got a Trek 4300, fitted with wheels that are 26x2.0". Would I be better to order the thinner 26x1.9", or get the fatter 26x2.1"?

Thanks in advance for your help

I use my tyres both on and off road and went for the larger size on the basis that they would be more sturdy when off road. Have been off road several times now and have no complaints! Hope this helps.

I recently fitted the 2.1 as I am a big guy. Looked good on my Trek MTB.

Then put 1.9 on my daughter's bike - just right for her and looks good too!

answer 4
I went for the 2.1's on my bike as i had 2.0 specialized ones on, however the thinner the tyre you use, the less surface area in contact with the road and therefore less rolling resistance, so it depends whether you use the bike on the road a lot?

Your main worry is frame clearance. Fit the tyres and if you see a line all round the tyre this a chafing ring so could eventually split the tyre. Fit Halo or Raleigh puncture resitant tubes to stop this happening. To date my Land Rover has rims the width of a road bike[very narrow] and have had no tyre problems with a 1.95 tyre despite the tread being very round. The wider you go the less contact you will have on the road. The Continental Traffic is a great tyre to use as it works perfectly on the road yet you can stil go off it. For road use their Town & Country is a good choice and is used the world over by police forces.

It depends on the rim really. If you go to 2.2 you have more chance of sidewall puncture if your rim is designed for thinner widths.

However, current trends in the MTB industry fit rims ideal for 1.75 tyres with 2.2 tyres in order to save weight. If the tyre is good, then there should be no problem (unless you plan to drop from large heights etc...)

Yes but you would need to check the clearance of frame and brakes.

simply convert it. 47mm = 1.85 inch. Will definately fit.

answer 2
47/52c is roughly the equivalent of a 1.9" tyre so you should be ok. Just make sure that you have enough clearance in the frame and fork in case the tread is a little wider.

Question
what are advantages of solid tyres?
can you recommend any and can you explain whether they are just thicker rubber and need innertubes. I have a mtb but only use semi slicks the size being 26x2.10

Find the Commuter tyre from Greentyre will fit a mtb rim despite being marked as a 590. They are two advantages, for a start you can get them in yellow and as for the second they are maintenace free and last basically forever. The downside is the can be a pig to fit so strong cable ties are a must. Performance wise do not bank hard on wet surfaces as you could slide. If you respect the tyre for what it is it will blow you away with what it can do. Remember a coil sprung saddle will be needed or rear suspension. Get a cool beach cruiser saddle. As for conventional tyres fit the Vittoria Randonnuer tyres form this site and use puncture resitant tubes from either Halo or Raleigh. Clean the tyres reguraly to avoid punctures.

Unfortunately we do not stock any 'solid tyres'. The tyre here is longer-lasting as the rubber is a harder compound and the tread pattern is thicker than most tyres.
