No. Use traditional road pedals, with or without toe clips and straps.

I have these on my MTB, but also use it on road. Only thing I would say is they are quite wide (front to back), and each pedal has about a dozen metal pins that grip your shoe. If your foot came off the pedal, they will give you a nice scratch on the shin. ;o)

They are probably way too big for aroad bike.

answer 4
They're good pedals but perhaps a little bulky for long distance rides. I'd look for something a little smaller allowing more flexibility in your foot when peddling.

My opinion is that they are a little bulky for road use and will hamper cornering but teamed with the right shoes they will offer loads of grip.

I have these on my mountain bike. For a city commute all I do is switch to 1.25 tires and reduce the front shock. No problems! Superior grip means you never slip (but it would be an amazing pedal bite if you did)

no, i wouldn't get these pedals for a road bike. as i have a road bike, before i got cleats i started off with normal pedals and a toe cap. its similar to cleats but easier to get your foot out. if you start of with this and then move on to cleats later.

I think a better idea for a road bike would be to start with half toeclips (look at the Zefal stapless toeclips). These will keep your foot in the right place on the pedaland have more of a feel of being clipped in, but you can still put your foot down easily.

You need to apply the grease prior to installation.

However you need more grease than what is supplied. Make sure you have a grease gun and a tube of quality grease.

answer 6
I just got a pair of them, the grease needs to be applied before you use them - seems that they are not pre-greased.

The supplied grease does not seem to be enough for both pedals, I emptied all of it into one, and had to use some more for the second.

You should check the pedals when they arrive to make sure the spindles are smooth, if not apply some grease and keep the rest for future maintenance.

They're the same shape but the v12 runs cartridge bearings which are arguably better quality and longer lasting.

The V8 has ball bearings, the V12 has cartridge.

answer 3
The V8 has a sleel axle and unsealed bearings, the V12 has a Chromed Cro Mo axle in silver instead of black and uses sealed bearings. The V12 is therefore lighter and more robust with less need for maintenance.

It shouldn't be a problem but you may find some issues if the old chain is worn. If I were you I'd look for a cheap cassette and chain somewhere and get a shiny new system completely.

Question
Are These Pedals Suitable For Any Shoe?

Normally when I use these pedals I use my trainers and that works fine. Good grip in the wet and comfortable. They would be equally fine using commuting spd shoes with the cleat covers on.

answer 2
I tend to just wear skate type shoes when cycling and they grip well on those. I'd say pretty much any trainer would suit although maybe not 'proper' shoes due to the nature of the harder soles and the way that the studs are designed to dig into the sole of the shoe to maintain grip. Hope that helps.
