the plate normally comes with the shoe. There are two main types of shoe plate - road (3 fixings for Look / SPD SL) and MTB (2 fixings for SPD / Crank Bros etc.)

Question
Compatible with Schwinn spin bike pedals?
Excuse my obvious lack of knowledge here. I have a pair of diadora road shoes, and I'd like to know if these cleats are compatibile with those AND the quick release pedals on the schwinn bikes at my spinning class. Many thanks Karen

Yes, however they are the type that will release with multiple direction heel movement - not just the horizontal release. Because spin class will simulate hill climbing, these particular cleats can release with upward heel draw. Check the other 2 cleats if you're concerned about your heel disengaging on the 'hill tracks'.
Hope this helps!

You'd need to ask at your spinning class as they might not have the standard pedals fitted. Your instructor should know.

Some Diadora road shoes will take 2 bolt cleat fittings, these cleats will fit only 2 bolt cleat fittings so please be sure that they have the 2 bolt holes in the middle of the toe box in order to fit the cleats.

The pedals at your gym need to be Shimano compatible, ask a gym worker if they can find out for you what pedals are being used.

Question
Can I buy a reploacement shoe anchor?
While repositioning the SPD cleats on my Time RXS shoes I managed to partially strip the thread on the shoe anchor plate. Can I buy replacement anchor plates, and if so how do I fit them? Alternatively, just how do I fit them since I could make my own (I have a tap & die set).

The cleats I have came with backing plates (cleats arrived screwed into backing plates). The shoes I have say that you can pull out the insole from the shoe to access the backing plate. The backing plate should just come out of the shoe, providing the cleat is undone already.

Cleats nuts are supplied with 2 bolt SPD cleats. You may need to cut away the sole of your shoe from the inside, underneath the insole and replace the nut there. You should be able to simply replace the peice of sole and insole to use the shoe again.

Question
Are the Shimano cleats suitable for my Scott MTB cycling shoes?
I have recently made the decision to move to cycling shoes to move my cycling up a notch and have purchased a pair of the above shoes but they do not seem to come with cleats and I was wondering as to which would be the best to purchase - I will also be using them in spin classes.

Thanks

Not sure about scott shoes or spinning, but they work with specialised shoes. I reckon on them being standard.

Hi there, you don't get cleats with shoes, they tend to come with pedals. I'd advise the multi release cleats for starters as there's less chance of you keeling over by mistake. some of Shimanos one sided pedals actually come with multi release cleats as standard so you get to save some dosh

Cleats are specific to pedals so cleats are always supplied with the pedals instead of the shoes. In this case, because you are going to spin classes, you won't need to purchase the pedals yourself, only the cleats. Most spin classes will use 2 bolt spd pedals so the SH51 cleat is the best to go for. I would recommend contacting the spin class organisers though to be sure, they should be able to recommend a cleat type without any issues.

Either SH51 or SH56. SH 56 are multi release and SH51 single. Multi release in my opinion are better for true XC MTB but no good for jumps etc.

If you currently use the SH56 you should carry on using the SH56 on your new shoes. The fitting will be fine with the dhb M1 shoe. You can find the SH56 at the link below

Crank Brother pedals have their own type cleats that come with the pedals. Shimano SPD's will not fit with these pedals.

No. standard SPD cleats use a 2 bolt fixing, SPD SL road style pedals use a 3 bolt cleat fixing. Shoes designed for 2 bolt spd cleats will not accept a 3 bolt SPD L cleat.

Standard release is ankle twist outwards. Multi release is twist out or in or up and out. If you are planning jumps multi release are no good.

Multi release a great for newbies to clipless and also for more interesting XC terrain where you may need to release quickly. For example going uphill and hitting a boggy spot. No release means an unpleasant stop at the end of the fall so its important to be able to release.

Not sure about shoes but normally road shoes have a different set up.

Should be.

Multi release release at any angle, making them easier to get out of if you are not used to clipless pedals.

You are best going by the euro size as that deals in half UK sizes. Cycling shoes are meant to be snug, but width is sometimes a problem. If you have normal width feet you should be ok but if you go for half a size up then you can always wear extra socks. If you have wide feet like me I recommend lake shoes. They are the only ones that fit me.
